There was a lot of controversy surrounding Megan Fox's departure from the "Transformers" franchise last spring. How would the series fare without her? Who would replace her?
We got an answer to that second question pretty quickly, but the jury is still out on how easily model-turned-actress Rosie Huntington-Whiteley will fit into the pre-established framework of Michael Bay's "Transformers" movies. But the jury isn't out for Hasbro CEO Brian Goldner — according to him, Huntington-Whiteley is more than up to the challenge that "Dark of the Moon" presents.
"I mean, come on," he laughed when we asked him how Huntington-Whiteley was settling into the blockbuster franchise. "Look at the trailer!"
Clearly, Goldner is a fan, but his approval of the actress goes far beyond Huntington-Whiteley's outer beauty.
"To know her beyond outward appearances is to actually know someone who is incredibly articulate, incredibly sweet and kind, and just has this great presence and chemistry," he described. "You see it from the first second she arrives on the screen in her relationship with Shia. I think it's so fun and interesting to watch Shia fall in love with this great girl, adding this level of chemistry that we never would've had by showing another series of events with Megan and Shia together."
Good thing that she's fitting in so well, too, because Goldner described Huntington-Whiteley's character as the "catalyst for a lot of the action" we'll see in "Dark of the Moon."
"She's obviously a major character in the film," he said. "She gets drawn unknowingly into the conflict. Because of his love for her, Shia is drawn into doing things he might not have otherwise done. She's really a catalyst for a lot of the action, more like the first movie where the human story is catalytic for the action."
"But that doesn't mean there aren't great robots and great action and great battles," he teased. "You're going to see some amazing characters from the lore, like Sentinel Prime."
