Interview - Stan Bush Rocking Transformers Again

"You've got the touch. You've got the power!" - Every Transformers fan know's that
line from the movie thanks to Stan Bush who's classic 80s rock gave the 1986
feature movie its heavy metal edge. And like the movie, Stan was Transformed by
the experience and went on the be an award winning song writer and performer the
world over. With a new album on the way, Stan is back with an all new recording to
the all new Transformers Movie coming 07/07/07. We caught up with Stan recently
about his work on the original movie, what's he has been up to since and his new
track for the movie. Read the questions and answers below.

TFormers: Tell us about how you got started as a musician?
Stan: I grew up in Florida, started playing guitar at age 10. After high school, I
began playing nightclubs throughout the South. I joined a recording group in
Colorado and moved to L.A. when we got a record deal.

Stan: I was doing my second solo album for Scotti Bros/Epic Records and
recorded "The Touch" and "Dare", which were chosen for the Transformers
soundtrack. It was really exciting landing the project? My songs seemed to fit
perfectly with the heroism of the characters featured in the movie.

TFormers: What was it like working on TFTM?
Stan: It was cool. I wasn't involved in deciding where the songs were used in the
movie, but it was exciting being at the screening of the movie in here in Los Angles.
We did a music video that aired on MTV. I performed "The Touch" in front of a green
screen and later they added the animation.

Stan: "The Touch" became very popular in Europe, especially Germany. It was
released as a single three times. I did several tours, both as an opening act and
headlining.

the idea of sentient robots that transform into cars, jets, guns, and tape-decks was
very innovative idea that captivated children's imaginations.

Stan: Yes! I have always thought the idea was incredibly imaginative and creative,
although I don't collect the toys, just the T-Shirts. I remember my nephew was crazy
about Transformer toys. I would try in vain to transform his toys, but he could do it
in just a few seconds.

TFormers: I see you've continued to write and perform since TFTM in 1986. What
have you been up to?
Stan: I've released 10 solo albums worldwide and toured extensively. My
song "Capture the Dream" was featured in the 1996 Olympic Games. In 1997, I won
an Emmy for Best Original Song for "Til I Was Loved By You" which was featured on
The Guiding Light. Vince DiCola and I performed together at Botcon '97.

TFormers: What are some of the other movie soundtracks you have worked on?
Stan: "Heart vs. Head" was featured in the movie The Wraith, starring Charlie
Sheen. I sang the title tracks for two Jean-Claude Van Damme films: Kickboxer, a film
sequel to the action adventure film, Bloodsport. Also, the movie Boogie Nights
featured "The Touch" in a scene where Mark Whalberg is trying to resurrect his
career as a rock singer. It was deliberately bad and was kind of a spoof on the
eighties. I found out "The Touch" was in Boogie Nights after the film came out.

TFormers: You recently announced you are working on track that might be in the
new Transformers Movie. Is that a done deal or is there more to be done before you
are officially in the movie?
Stan: We just completed the mix and will be presenting the track to the
Transformers production this week. I'd like to encourage fans to write in to the
official Transformers movie website if they'd like to hear a song in the new film.

TFormers: How did the opportunity come about to be in the new Transformers film?
Stan: It was great being involved with the first Transformers movie with such a
positive message. I was so excited when I heard about the new movie, I
immediately began working on a new song, even though there was no guarantee of
it being used in the soundtrack.

the 20th anniversary of the original Transformers movie. The response from the fans
has been awesome. I really appreciate all the support from the fans who have
written to me on my website StanBush.com.

TFormers: I read on your site that you are up to 70 tracks on the new song. Who's
playing the music on it and can you explain what tracks are to the reader?
Stan: My producer, Holger Fath, played all the guitars and has come up with a killer
arrangement. The other musicians include… drums: Matt Laug, bass: Lance
Morrison, and keyboards: Dirk Nagel. When I use the term tracks (as in '70 tracks'),
that basically means there are that many parts being played or sang on the
recording. The band Queen were noted for having a lot of tracks on their records.

Stan: I feel it's the perfect blend of the melodic high-powered 80s with modern
heavy rock. I'm really pleased with the massive keyboards and guitars, high
harmonies and anthem-like quality of the track.

Stan: It's pretty cool the way it all kind of came together. I listen to a lot of the new
rock and tried to blend it with some of the 'heart' from the original soundtrack.
TFormers: What's your impression of the Transformers Movie so far?

these designs translate to live-action. I'm also a big fan of Michael Bay's work.
